Campus Filming Office Procedures

Thank you for your interest in Syracuse University and our campus. If your organization is interested in planning and executing a commercial film, video or similar production on our campus, we encourage you to review our procedures and guidelines.

Planning phase

  • It is highly recommended that filming requests and script review begin at least 90 days prior to the specified filming dates.
  • View our campus video and familiarize yourself with our guidelines.
  • Send the Campus Filming Office a complete script or storyboard for our review and approval. All scripts are subject to a comprehensive review and cannot interfere with the University’s academic mission, violate any of the University’s policies, or comprise the safety or integrity of our campus community. We reserve the right to deny any request.
  • The University will provide a list of fees including permits, location rental, operations and maintenance, security and interior location costs.
  • Please note: Beginning Fall 2019, the Dome is under a multi-phase construction transformation to enhance the fan experience and will be unavailable for filming purposes.
  • Complete the appropriate Filming, Videotaping, and Photography Application Form available upon request from the Campus Filming Office.

At least 30-45 business days prior to shooting

  • If your request is approved, contact the Campus Filming Office to set up a preliminary appointment to scout all site locations and to discuss details and campus fees of the shoot. Other campus representatives from Security, Campus Facilities and Catering may participate in this scouting meeting.
  • Send the application form to the Campus Filming Office.
  • Reminder: the Campus Filming Office must approve your project. Requests may be denied in our sole discretion, including if the overall content of the script is in conflict with the vision and mission of the University. We respond to most requests for approval within 14 business days.
