Holiday Sharing Program

The 2020 Syracuse University Holiday Sharing Program is now CLOSED for 2020

Syracuse University departments, groups, and individuals can help light up the holidays for families in need.  Below are details for two community programs we are proud to support .

Salvation Army Christmas Bureau

There are more people facing hardship this year and the need to serve is greater than ever.   This year, instead of supporting the annual Christmas Bureau, the Salvation Army of Central New York is asking for support for their existing programs:

  • Family Place (program that works with parents and their children in need of supervised visitations) – looking for cookie decorating kits and ornament decorating kits
  • TAPC (Transitional Apartments and Parent Center) (supportive housing for young mothers and their babies) – looking for kitchen items for their apartments
  • Barnabas (homeless teem shelter and apartments) – looking for bedding and hygiene baskets
  • Emergency Family Shelter – looking for craft and activity sets for families, puzzles and activity books for children and adults, and colored pencils/markers

For more information, or to donate to any of the above, please contact Emily Winiecki, Community Engagement Coordinator at or 315.443.4137.

PEACE, Inc. Adopt-A-Family Program is now closed.  All families at PEACE have been sponsored.

The PEACE, Inc. Adopt-A-Family Holiday Giving Program offers individuals and businesses the opportunity to brighten up the holidays for a family in need by providing hard working low income families with gifts at the Holidays.  Sponsors can “adopt” a family and they will receive a family profile including the ages and gender of the family members along with a few gift suggestions.  Sponsors shop for the gifts and then drop off wrapped gifts in mid-December.  The gifts provide struggling families with some relief during a very stressful time.  Other variations of supporting the program are also available such as collections of toys, food, toiletry items, donating grocery store gift cards, and monetary donations.

Giving to a Family(ies)

If you choose to give gifts to a family or families, you will be provided with a family wish list which includes the first name, gender, age, and sizes of each family member along with gift suggestions. Sponsors will purchase, wrap and drop off gifts for each member of the family. See below for drop-off information.

Give a Basket(s)

You can put together a basket with the following items: toiletry items, paper goods, laundry detergent, grocery and/or gas gift cards, board games, candy, and/or arts and craft supplies. You will be sent a more specific list of items after completing this form. These items can be collected and put into a basket(s) (i.e. gift basket, laundry basket, etc.). If desired, sponsors may provide baskets in addition to giving gifts to a family.

Many families do not have the opportunity to be sponsored for holiday gifts. You can still help these families by donating a collection of items such as socks, hat/scarves/gloves, blankets, gift cards, etc., to PEACE, Inc. These items will then be given to families.

Monetary Donations

Monetary donations will be used to purchase gifts and items for unsponsored families. Donations may be given online or by mail. To mail donations, please send checks payable to PEACE, Inc. and mail to PEACE, Inc./Give-A-Holiday, 217 S. Salina St., second floor, Syracuse, NY 13202
