2016 marks the 45th annual Syracuse University employee fundraising campaign for the United Way of Central New York!  Our employees have contributed millions of dollars to local nonprofit agencies through the United Way.  In the last five years we have contributed more than $1 million dollars, averaging $212,000 in donations per year.  While we have much to be proud of, we can do more if we each give what we can.

The University’s employee fundraising campaign runs October 3 through December. The campaign is managed by a coordinator in the Office of Government and Community Relations and implemented by a cross-campus committee of volunteers.  The University is one of several hundred corporate partners that conduct a workplace campaign for the United Way of Central New York.

As one of the area’s largest employers, Syracuse University plays an important role in the overall success of the United Way’s community-wide efforts.  The dollars we contribute to the United Way directly affect positive change in Onondaga County through 34 agencies and 91 programs.  The United Way, Syracuse University's trusted partner for more than 40 years, is committed to careful stewardship of philanthropic dollars – monitoring each of its funded agencies’ accounting, management, and program practices.

How to Pledge

All full- and part-time employees of the University receive a paper pledge card in campus mail in early fall. Additionally, all staff receive an e-mail solicitation on consecutive Wednesdays in October lenabling them to make a paperless pledge directly on MySlice.  All paper and web-based pledges may be directed to go through Syracuse University payroll, withdrawn as one lump sum or incrementally through the year.

Incentive Program:  The Step-Up Challenge

New donors and current donors who increase their annual pledge by $52 (one dollar per week) are automatically entered into the United Way's Step Up Challenge program, which awards weekly prizes to randomly drawn winners.  All Step Up donors from all Central New York companies are eligible for one of four United Way grand prizes each valued at $4000 or higher.
