Thornden Park Association

The Thornden Park Association is a not-for-profit corporation, organized under the laws of the State of New York and was founded in 1983 to advocate for, restore and revitalize Thornden Park, a seventy-six acre historic landscape, situation within the complex and diverse University neighborhood.

Since its formation, the Park has been the scene of a multitude of events, activities and capital improvements, financed through a variety of private and public financing sources. The Association has sponsored a set of public events (such as the annual Chili Festival ) and spearheaded multiple improvements (such as the rejuvenation of the Lily Pond gardens). Recently, the Association has been directly involved in two substantial (long-term) capital projects - the rejuvenation and upgrading of the Field House and the Carriage House, historic structures dating back to the original estate. Both of these projects will permit a sizable expansion of year-round, neighborhood-based activities.

The Association has an active membership of some 150 households, but many more neighbors actively participate in its work. Most members of the Association are residents of the area adjacent to the Park, particularly its southeastern neighborhood. Syracuse University students, staff and faculty also contribute valuable time and effort to Association-sponsored events - the park serves as a cooperative linkage between the campus and the neighborhood.
