Services We Offer
The Office of Government & Community Relations provides the following services:
- assists with and coordinates contacts with alumni and friends of the University who have been elected or appointed to policy-making positions within the federal, state or local government
- assists with and coordinates invitations to policy-level federal, state or local elected officials and employees for campus visits, lectures, tours and other University activities
- works with the Vice Chancellor and Provost; Vice President for Research; deans of the schools/colleges; and other officers, directors and department heads of the University, as appropriate, to identify and prioritize opportunities for local, state or federal support for research and other University programs and projects
- monitors and coordinates institutional response to legislation, regulations or policy changes which may have an impact on the University or higher education in general
- responds to inquiries or requests for assistance on federal, state or local policies, issues, legislation or regulations
- serves as the primary contact with federal, state or local policy-making associations which deal with higher education, economic development or science and technology, as well as the federal, state or community relations staffs of other higher education institutions
- provides representation on the University Neighborhood Partnership and its activities
- serves as a University representative to neighborhood organizations, the community and many business associations
- produces the Community Connections Newsletter
- administers the SU Cares listserv and collaborates on the 442-CARE hotline
- serves as ombudsman by responding to inquiries and requests from individuals, the neighborhood and community groups
